I am thrilled to share that I have officially joined Making Space’s Ascend Fellowship Program, Horizons Cohort 2026.
This is an exciting milestone for me, and one that feels deeply meaningful both personally and professionally. Ascend is a six-month career development and professional growth fellowship designed by and for Disabled professionals, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be part of a program that centers Disabled leadership, learning, and community.
For me, this fellowship represents more than a title or a program announcement. It represents access, possibility, and connection. It is a chance to learn alongside other Disabled professionals, strengthen my skills, and continue growing in ways that support both my current work and the bigger vision I have for the future.
Why this opportunity matters to me
As someone who cares deeply about disability inclusion, accessibility, assistive technology, and creating more inclusive spaces, I know how important it is to have opportunities that are intentionally designed with Disabled people in mind. Too often, Disabled professionals are asked to fit into systems that were not built for us. Programs like Ascend help shift that dynamic by creating space for Disabled people to lead, learn, and thrive on our own terms.
That is one of the things I value most about this fellowship. It is not only about career development. It is also about belonging, affirmation, and being part of a community that understands both the challenges and the strengths that Disabled professionals bring to the table.
What I am looking forward to
Over the next six months, I am looking forward to:
- Learning from the fellowship curriculum and speakers
- Connecting with other Disabled professionals in the cohort
- Reflecting on my own goals and growth
- Strengthening the skills I bring to my work and advocacy
- Sharing pieces of the journey along the way
I am especially excited about the opportunity to meet and learn from others who are navigating their careers while also bringing lived experience, creativity, and resilience into their work.
A space for growth and encouragement
One of the most powerful things about a fellowship like this is that it creates space for Disabled professionals to be seen fully. Our experiences are not barriers to contribution. They are part of what shapes our insight, leadership, and perspective.
I believe that when Disabled people are given meaningful access to professional development, mentorship, and community, everyone benefits. We bring innovation, problem-solving, and a deeper understanding of inclusion into every space we enter.
Being part of Ascend feels like an opportunity to keep building on that belief in a practical, grounded way.
Looking ahead
I am grateful to Making Space for creating this fellowship and for investing in Disabled professionals through programs like Ascend. I am also grateful for the chance to step into this new chapter with curiosity and purpose.
I look forward to sharing updates as the fellowship continues and to reflecting on what I learn along the way.
