When I first started sharing my walking journeys, I never imagined how many incredible people would join me—each with their own story, their own path, and sometimes their own challenges with technology. Your encouragement, questions, and shared experiences have meant the world to me, and they’ve opened my eyes in so many ways.
Just last spring, I received an email from a reader named Maria. She told me she loved following along with my walks, but she often struggled to read some of the text on the site because of her low vision. She described how much she wanted to join in, to really feel part of the journey, but sometimes the website itself felt like an obstacle course. That message stuck with me—it made me realize that the path I share online should be as open and inviting as the trails I walk in real life.
So, this post is more than an update—it’s a promise. Over the next few weeks, Esther’s Walking Journey will be getting a bit of a “remodel.” Not just to look prettier (though I’m excited for that, too!), but to make sure that every single person who visits—no matter their abilities—feels truly welcome here.
I’m honored to be part of the Accessibility Internet Rally (AIR) this year. This means I’m working with a fantastic team, learning from accessibility mentors, and rethinking how I share my stories so everyone can join in the adventure. To be honest, it’s a little overwhelming and a lot inspiring. I want this site to feel like a well-worn path you can walk with ease, whether you use a screen reader, keyboard, or just your two feet.
You might notice changes—clearer text, easier navigation, and new features designed to make the site friendlier for all. It’s all happening with you in mind, because your journey matters just as much as mine.
Thank you for being part of this growing, learning, ever-walking community. I appreciate your patience and support as we try out new things and keep moving forward—together.
I’ll keep you updated on our progress, and if you’re curious about AIR or want to see what other teams are doing, check them out here.
With gratitude and excitement,
Esther
